May marks more fishing for Southeast fishermen
Commercially-caught vermilion, grouper and amberjack are all open this week and that's good news.
The Vermilion season will be open until May 8.
Shallow Water groupers (gag, black, red, etc.) are open after a four month spawning closure, hopefully until the end of the year.
Amberjack and red porgy are also open now.
Additionally, NOAA has also eliminated the proposed snapper-grouper area closure in the South Atlantic, preventing a closure of nearly 5,000 square miles.
